Orders processed directly with you become available in your eCommerce platform and charges are run through Stripe. View your eCommerce platform documentation on how to handle these orders.
Types of Direct Transactions
Depending on how you setup your retailers on the platform there are two ways to obtain direct transactions:
- Ship to Door - Typical direct to consumer (D2C or B2C) transactions where no retailer is involved
- Commission Dealers - Where dealers receive a commission, assembly fee, or pickup fee for an order
In both cases your company will become the seller of record for the sales and be responsible for any returns, exchanges, or chargebacks. All payment information for direct transaction can be found within your Stripe console.
Authorize or Authorize and Capture in One Step
The default setting for ShipEarly is to Authorize and Capture in one single step. However if you wish to only authorize the consumers card before charging it you can do so. This is a useful strategy as many payment gateways now do not refund their processing fee on refunds. If you authorize first, then capture you can mitigate paying credit card processing fees on orders before you ship. To adjust the settings:
- Click on Company Name in top right
- Select Shipment Settings
- Select Dealer Options
- Select Authorize
- Click Save
Note: You can return to capture and charge in one step by selecting Charge Immediately.
Direct Transaction Order Details
Direct transactions are indicated with a tag called 'Direct' on each order. The eCommerce Order ID is placed both inside ShipEarly and in the payment gateway for ease of identification and to reconcile your payments.
Direct Transaction Refunds
When direct transactions are refunded inside your eCommerce platform ShipEarly automatically refunds the amount from your Stripe account. ShipEarly also refunds any order fees it charges on direct transactions so we only make money when you do.
Note: For Shopify users, please ensure the refund web hook is set up in your Notifications settings in your Shopify admin to notify us of refunded transactions.
